The emphasis in this special class is on the back and the hips.
For a Healthy Back we direct your awareness to focus on ways to strengthen the back and increase flexibility while creating balance. The class will focus on the shoulders and neck, middle back and hips.
We will address common daily contributing movements that lead to imbalances and often pain. You will gain knowledge both intellectually (mentally) and experientially (feeling in the body) which you can use to “unlock” and “release” tight, stuck and stagnant areas. You will learn how and what to strengthen and release while addressing the body as a whole. We will also include relaxation as an integral element for the benefits it instils to bring balance and reflection. Balance is achieved both physically as well as mentally while quieting the nervous system and the mind.
For the Opening of the Hips, we bring awareness to the pelvis, hips and lower back. The hips are the joints that determines the body’s symmetry. This part of the class is designed to give you an experience of the hip mobility, balance and core stabilisation. Learning “how” and “what” is safe in yoga while creating strength and space in a mindful way.
In today’s world we find ourselves sitting for long periods of time. With tension amassing in the hip region, the psoas muscle is prone to shorten causing many long-tem ailments within the body. The class will open your practice to a broad range of asanas that address our hips – the core of your body’s mobility.
Please join us in learning more about preventative medicine for your health.
“Both the mind and body are linked to each other. The condition of one affects the other. That is why when we speak of health, we consider the body along with the mind. We must keep both in an optimal state.” BKS Iyengar
